Psalms 124:2-5 NLT
What if the Lord had not been on our side when people attacked us? They would have swallowed us alive in their burning anger. The waters would have engulfed us; a torrent would have overwhelmed us. Yes, the raging waters of their fury would have overwhelmed our very lives.
The Damselfly spend almost a year under water as a larwa. Her only mission is to mate and lay her eggs. She will only live for a few weeks after she has emerged from the water. After mating, she goes back under the water to lay her eggs. Her wings has thin layers of air to help her breathe under water.
We have received the Spirit of Jesus, the Holy Spirit, to help us breathe when we find ourselves in deep waters of trouble. We need to hold on to the promise that God is our refuge from the storm and our shelter from the heat (Isa 25:4). This is such a perfect comparison to the lifecycle of the Damselfly. For a whole year swimming around in a storm of different creatures and fish species wanting to eat her up, she still manages to find a way of escaping every trap of death and she is able to complete her mission. Sadly enough, not all Damselflies finish their mission.
When we commit all our ways to God , we become just like this Damselfly larwa who is not torn apart by any predator but escapes like a bird from the hunters trap (Ps 124:6-8). When you make Jesus the center of your life, you get an advantage over your enemies and the Holy Spirit becomes your eyes and ears. He will guide you in the right direction, when you go into a wrong direction he will nudge you back. When you face danger or opposition he will certainly warn and protect you.
Be like this Damselfly who is free from the ropes of death and who completes her mission successfully.
